Welcome to HannahJoyTV!

Hey everyone! I’m Hannah Joy Gebresilassie and this is my first post! I thought I would kick things off with sharing a bit about me.

I love traveling and exploring new cultures! I also love working with the youth and empowering folks through motivational speeches.

Before moving to Southern Illinois to work as a TV Reporter, I worked in my hometown at FOX 5 Atlanta as a News Trainee, where I field produced stories and wrote for Good Day Atlanta, as well as contributed content for digital platforms.

I earned my master’s in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where I had the honor of speaking at graduation. During my time at Northwestern, I reported and anchored for the Medill News Service in Chicago and Washington, D.C. I also worked on a documentary highlighting the Chinese diaspora in Johannesburg, South Africa. I covered Capitol Hill, events at the White House, the 2016 NFL Draft, and freelanced for the Associated Press as a video journalist at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Prior to Medill, I earned my bachelor’s in business administration from Georgia Tech. While at Tech, I was a student ambassador involved with various organizations including the women’s basketball team.

I also have an extensive background working in sports. I worked for the Atlanta Falcons, the Chicago Bears, the Atlanta Dream, IMG College, the Big Ten Network, the WBCA and the GT Women’s Basketball team, where I hosted a video blog and foreign tour in Europe. My experiences working in sports led me to realizing my passion to share stories of people reaching their dreams and overcoming adversity. I love mentoring youth, as a beneficiary of the same support throughout my journey. I am a proud first generation Ethiopian-Eritrean American determined to inspire communities through journalism and storytelling.

I hope to continue bringing you inspiring and educational stories from across the globe. Thanks for reading and subscribing!
