Nigerian American NFL Player using platform to fight sickle cell: Journey Time with Jeremiah Attaochu

HannahJoyTV – In this episode of Journey Time, we meet Jeremiah “Jerry” Attaochu, a Nigerian American NFL player who’s using his platform to fight sickle cell and empower communities.

During this interview, Jeremiah shares how his mother encouraged him to start Glory’s Hope Sickle Cell Foundation, as he was inspired by his courageous sister, Glory, and her journey living with sickle cell anemia, an inherited red blood cell disorder that causes extreme pain.

Prior to joining the NFL and launching a nonprofit, Jerry overcame various obstacles, including surviving malaria as a child, immigrating to Washington, D.C. from Nigeria, getting bullied as a teenager, living in the basement of a church to growing up in underserved communities. In this #JourneyTime episode, Jerry talks about how his faith and family kept him going. He also shares how he unintentionally learned to play football in high school and ended up getting a scholarship to play at Georgia Tech.

Today, the 2016 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Nominee is using his platform to help people through his nonprofit and community service. He is entering the 2019 season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs Defense and looks forward to more growth along the journey.
